HealthyPlanet is one of a number of Long Island environmental organizations that have come together to engage in collaborative outreach initiatives to promote the most effective programs to protect the environment. The first program this collaborative has decided to support is the Long Island Green Homes Consortium. The environmental groups all agreed that one of the best ways individual Long Islanders can reduce fossil fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and air pollution is by improving the energy performance of their homes.

As more and more homeowners invest in making their homes more energy efficient not only do the benefits to Long Island's environment grow, it also creates more jobs on Long Island, keeps more money in the local economy that otherwise would have left Long Island to pay for fuel to heat homes and generate electricity, and improves the health of people who are vulnerable to the effects of air pollution. For this reason, many other groups including civic, community, business and public health organizations have been invited to participate in the outreach collaborative's efforts to promote Long Island Green Homes.
